Human mind is not meant to work in chaos.
Our senses are prone to easy distractions, with our concentration breaking with a slight buzz in any aspect of our atmosphere.
Someone plays a song in distance, we get distracted; someone texts, we get distracted; someone chats, we get distracted; no one does anything, we still get distracted.
That’s how weak our concentration span is.
Most think that there isn’t much you can do about your concentration level.
However, that isn’t true. There are many ways by which you can improve your concentration.
***HERE WE LIST SOME WAYS THAT CAN KEEP YOURSELF GLUED TO THE GLOOMIEST YET IMPORTANT THINGS***
### 1.. Select your environment
This goes without saying it but as this list is exhaustive, we must mention it.
Your environment is the most crucial decision you make when you have to focus.
Remember choosing environments which are calm, have the least distractions, proper lighting and a comfortable seat.
Lie down the way you would like and keep all things you may need around you, like water bottle or snacks.
This will help you keep any thoughts of hunger or thirst at bay. Make a time plan
It is a must to have a plan in mind. If you set a time target to achieve a certain task, adhering to it will give you a sense of accomplishment.
This is what will keep you on the task. Also, it will lessen any distractions by increasing your drive towards your goal.
### 2.. Never be negative
if you think your concentration power is bad, so it will be. Stop telling yourself the negatives and start focusing on positives.
Positivity is a habit which needs to be inculcated in your behaviour.
### 3.. Control your thoughts
This is easier said than done and will only happen through practice but you must try to control your wandering mind while you are at work.
Here’s a trick: Try to cut irrelevant thoughts off in between by relevant thoughts.
### 4.. Avoid multi-tasking
Although, it is an age of multi-tasking and the ability to multitask is considered as a strength you must possess, it isn’t a thing you
should indulge in. Millennials and corporates are realizing this and now the focus has shifted to mono-tasking. This is because multi-tasking
doesn’t let you focus on the more important thing at hand.
### 5..Know if what you are doing is your interest area
A lot of times, we are doing something merely because it is expected from us to do it. We don’t ask ourselves if that is what we really want to do.
If you think that is the case with you, you must be losing your focus every time you indulge in that task. In such a case, it is best to leave it and
find what you love doing.
### 6.. Cut the noise
Put your phone on silent mode, invest in ear plugs and find a corner which is isolated or silent. If your atmosphere is calm, your work quality will show it.
Cutting off all noise is really important when it comes to bettering your concentration levels.
### 7.. Diet and exercise
Many wonder how what they eat or what their body does impact their concentration power. But, lack of essential vitamins and nutrients are responsible for
a weak and lethargic body. Similarly, a lack of exercise is related to a slow metabolism.
### 8.. Understand the task
We often start a task without understanding its basics. If you do not know what the task you have at hand is about, don’t do it.
To be able to successfully do anything, you must understand it. Start with a basic and generalized view.
### 9.. Conquer procrastination
We all procrastinate and it is as humanly a trait as breathing is. But, try to do it less and lesser.
Instruct yourself to not leave your spot until you have finished off the task. Once you are halfway into it, you will find motivation for the rest half as well.
### 10.. Divide tasks
This is similar to setting a time target. When you give numbers to yourself, it is more likely that you will achieve your goals more easily.
Divide your tasks in various chunks and this can get you started very well.
### 11..Spot your peak times
Your friend is a night owl, all right, but that doesn’t have to mean that you are one too. Everyone has certain peak times during the day when their concentration is better. Spot yours and get going.
### 12.. Do concentration exercises
There are many exercises which can help you increase your concentration power. They focus on mind and body coordination and help you improve your memory preservation. Read: Exercises for concentration
### 13.. Meditate
Mediation is a very powerful tool that can be used to increase your concentration power. Meditating basically works like a magnifier. To meditate, you need some degree of concentration, but once your pour that into it, your ability to concentrate improves, along with many other benefits that you get.
### 14..Go slow
Asking unaccomplishable tasks of yourself is not the right way to push yourself. To motivate yourself the right way, you must take small steps at one time.
This will help you concentrate more.
### 15.. Teach yourself perseverance
Training begins when you instruct yourself to persevere with a task. Let’s say a task is very mechanical and doesn’t interest you a bit but you
have to do at any cost, try to focus on it. If you can persevere for, lets say, ten minutes, you can persevere for ten more and then ten more.
### 16.. Try concentration music
For those who do not know, the genre exists! There is music that is known to calm our brain waves and can put us in a mode which is
better at concentration. Alpha wave music, natural sounds, soft jazz and instrumentals can help.
### 17.. Get enough sleep
You may have to impose a bedtime to yourself but that’s important. If your sleep cycle is satisfactory, so will be your quality of the day.
### 18.. Figure out if comparison works for you or not
There are many people who are driven by comparing themselves with others but for many, it is unhealthy. Remember, everyone has his own pace.
So, if you can positively draw from others’ speeds, it can help you stay focused. However, if not, it is better to tread at your own good pace
### 19.. Manage requirements in advance
This is like what we mentioned earlier, take your stock with you. Keep water and snacks handy and any other requirement that you may have when you are at work.
### 20.. Unite your heart with mind
This means understand what you are at, have an interest in it and keep a positive attitude. If you are doing what you are at with all your heart, you can spend hours and hours engrossed in the job and you won’t even realize when the day has set
***FOR ASSIGNMENTS AND WRITE-UP***
I PREFER THE FOLLOWING TIPS :-
- Start assignments with some curiosity about the material and a positive attitude toward learning.
2. Designate a place where you go only to study. Use proper lighting.
3. Identify your distractions. Find ways to decrease them or to postpone them until study breaks
(e.g., taking the phone off the hook, turning off instant messenger).
4. Decrease noises around you while studying. If you need some background music it should be soft. Keep the TV off.
5. Use “active study” techniques: sit straight in a chair at a desk, start out with questions about the material, outline
chapters, underline key phrases after reading a section, write notes in margins, ask yourself what you have learned.
6. Divide your work into smaller manageable tasks that can be completed in a short period of time. Push yourself to complete
one small task, then move on to the next task. Focus on one small task at a time.
7. Use times of peak alertness for studying difficult or less interesting topics. When you are tired or hungry concentration will be lowered.
8. When your mind starts to wander come up with some cue words to say to yourself (e.g., “Focus.” “Get back on task.”) to focus your concentration again.
9. Take breaks when you have completed tasks or when you feel concentration has decreased. Breaks should be approximately 10-15 minutes.
10. If you have other assignments or issues on your mind write them down on a “to do” list or take a small step to deal with them.
Then get back to focusing on the task at hand.
###…NOW LAST BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT……
Nowadays mostly the cellphone is the biggest thing that distracts our mind.So while studying or completing assignments or experiment write-ups , we must use ”’HARD COPIES”’ or should refer a ”’BOOK”’ ,”’INSTEAD OF CELLPHONE”’ . When we use cell phone for completing this things we instantly get distracted by a single notification and we get off track and leave the completion behind….
